The ACP continues its successful wild card policy. After a very close race in the ACP Tour GM Evgeny Tomashevsky (Russia) got the coveted spot in the Tata Steel Masters group in Wijk aan Zee, and IM/WGM Nino Batsiashvili (Georgia) qualified for the prestigious Challengers group. The ACP Board thanks the organizers of Tata Steel Wijk aan Zee, on of the the oldest and most popular chess tournaments in the world, and wishes them to have another splendid event in 2016.
In June this year the Tata Steel Chess Tournament decided to reserve a spot for a veteran player (45+) in the Tata Steel Challengers for the 2016 and 2017 editions. In cooperation with ACP, the Tata Steel Chess tournament awarded the 2016 veteran spot to Russian Alexey Dreev (46), who won the tournament in Wijk aan Zee in 1995.
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2016 will take place in Wijk aan Zee from 15 - 31 January 2016.
